Learning Languages

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about programming/scripting languages it’s that, no matter how different the languages are, they’re usually pretty similar.

I normally work in REAL Studio, or PHP. I used to work with PERL, and VB6 a lot. Right now, I’m doing some work in Lua. The differences aren’t that great. I’ve dabbled in C#, and Lua feels like a C# VB hybrid language to me. It’s OOP and has a decent feature-set for a scripting, and I’m actually enjoying it. I mean, I’ve not tried lolcode yet, but Lua is possibly the easiest language to pick up that I’ve tackled yet.

It never ceases to amaze me how many different languages and environments we developers find ourselves in. We’re a diverse lot. What’s your story?
