Are you stretched thin? Who isn’t, right? So how do you manage to fit everything in which you need to carry out every day?
I’m not the best at managing my time, I’ll be up-front about that. Left to my own devices, I might never complete a task. How do I do it all? I set deadlines (or have them set for me). If I start a task which should take 20 minutes, and it must be done before 3:00PM, I’ll generally tell myself that I need to have started that task before 2:00PM to allow time for any interruptions. This allows me the freedom to handle those unexpected occurrences, while still managing to complete all the tasks I must do. It may not be the perfect system, but it works.
Now, those super-packed days are a bit different. You have to prioritize. What is the most important thing? How long will it take to complete? What’s next? Make a list. Following a list can be an excellent way to make sure that you complete your required tasks on time. Some of us just jump in and fly by the seat of our pants, others don’t bother to analyze the situation and complete the easiest tasks first. While this might sound ideal, what happens if it’s 2:00PM and you have five 10 minute easy tasks to complete and one 30 minute difficult tasks? Those first five tasks will take you 50 minutes, leaving only 10 minutes to complete the important 30 minute task, right? Cutting corners won’t help, you’ve mismanaged your time.
